Thus, in Microsoft Transact-SQL, you may add a DOUBLE and an INTEGER, or even append an INTEGER directly to a string in some cases. Some database developers, in a rush to get their products to market, saw the above "user-unfriendly" behaviour and cut it out of the system by defining all operators to work in a context-insensitive way. ![]() Further, if you want to define your own data types, you must spend the hours necessary to define all possible operators for them as well. Even more so, appending an integer to the end of a string requires a type conversion function (to_char(INT, '00000')). For example, try adding a FLOAT and a NUMERIC value you will get an error until you help out the database by defining them both as FLOAT or both as NUMERIC (CAST(FLOAT AS NUMERIC) + NUMERIC). Frequently you must CAST two values to the same data type in order to work with them. This fundamental rule has a number of tedious consequences. In the absence of a predefined context, the operator does not function at all and you get an error message. The subtraction operator (-) in these two operations, while it looks the same, is in fact not the same owing to a different datatype context. More dramatically, you may subtract one integer (INT - INT) from another, but you may not subtract one string from another (VARCHAR - VARCHAR), let alone subtract a string from an integer (INT - VARCHAR). Thus the division of two integers ( INT / INT ) does not function in the same way as the division of two float values (FLOAT / FLOAT). In the ANSI SQL world, operators (such as + - * % || !) are defined only in the context of the data types being operated upon. There are plenty of other non-compliant databases on the market.) I use MS SQL Server as an example of a non-standards-compliant database because I am a certified MS SQL Server admin and know its problems quite well. (BTW, I am not on an anti-Microsoft tirade here. I’m giving it a 5/5 here because it ticks all the boxes and does what I wanted well. I’ll buy it on steam when it's discounted (though I might hide it on my account lol). Overall Snow Daze is a fun porn story that is absolutely worth your time if you enjoy the fetishes on offer. The music and voice acting weren’t great honestly and I quickly turned them off playing my own music. The overarching story isn’t really worth talking about, the game is exclusively focused on the characters. Scenes have a nice length too, not too long or short. the butch girl’s sport photos become replaced with photos of nude models). Another thing I really enjoyed was how each room in the house showed evidence of the character’s developing perversion (e.g. Sarah’s final scene) while others have been forgotten. The artwork was generally good but won’t be everyone’s taste, some scenes stuck with me as memorable (e.g. The sex scenes all range from fun to hot, the character corruption was slow enough to feel real but fast enough to keep be interested. The protagonist isn’t annoying and has a personality too and that’s a real plus. All that said it was fun to watch their personalities change as they get more perverted and brainwashed over the course of the story. The characters show that they have more depth than I anticipated in the final day but they always felt very predictable. None of them are badly written as such but all of them fit an archetype, you’ve got the domineering mother that really wants to be submissive, the girl with the puppy fetish, the butch girl with has an urge to be feminine, the repressed girl with an exhibitionist fetish etc. The characters are the main thing holding the game back from being exceptional in my eyes. You are getting an incestual corruption tale in which you slowly brainwash each family member into being your slave over the course of 5 days. Snow Daze does what it sets out to do well. ![]() ![]()

![]() LibreOffice should declare victory and join forces! They need to realize they would do themselves and everyone else a real service by putting all this behind them and uniting. I know the fork was painful and people still hold a lot of angst against one another but they need to get over that. I know a certain level of competition can be healthy but I’m tired of seeing open source communities fight with each other to their own loss. Instead of competing with each other the LibreOffice and OpenOffice communities should get together to fight their common and real competitor. In this case, I think it’s a waste of resources and energy to keep this going. ![]() While forks in the open source world can be a tremendous way of shaking things up, they can also be very damaging. But now that this problem is solved, what does anyone have to gain from keeping the fork alive? Seriously. LibreOffice started from a sizable portion of the community being tired of Oracle’s control and apparent lack of interest in making it a more open community. This is entirely my personal opinion and I’ve not even talked about it to anyone within IBM.īut let me say quite bluntly what Rob is only hinting at: It’s time for LibreOffice to rejoin OpenOffice. So, if anyone wants to blame me for speaking as a person on IBM payroll, I’m not even going to bother responding. I’ve changed position within IBM in the Fall of 2010 and now focuses on other things such as Linked Data which I may talk about in some other post. I should say that I no longer have anything to do with what IBM does with ODF and anything related. ![]() The post from my colleague Rob Weir on Ending the Symphony Fork prompted me to post this now though. ![]() ![]() Loom Network was started in 2017 and founded by current CEO Matthew Campbell, current CTO Luke Zhang, and current CMO James Duffy. Loom has developed several types of side chains such as PlasmaChain, DAppChains, and GameChain, and SocialChain. These layer 2 solutions are based on proof-of-stake mechanisms and side chains. Loom has built ‘layer 2’ scaling that does not rely on a change in the base Ethereum protocol, but instead builds a structure on top of Ethereum that allows fast applications to be built. These customized side chains allow developers to tweak security, decentralization, and scalability requirements instead of relying solely on Ethereum’s primary features. The development of these side chains is Loom’s primary offering in which developers can create their own specially focused blockchain networks depending on the objective of each application. Side chains are essentially minor blockchains that are linked to a larger blockchain network such as Ethereum. Loom Network is also responsible for CryptoZombies – the resource on learning how to build Ethereum DApps. When questions and answers are voted up by other users, rather than simply earning useless karma points, they can exchange their karma for an ERC20 token, which can be sold for real money. DelegateCall gives financial incentives for users who provide the highest quality answers. On DelegateCall, users can ask and answer questions about blockchains and DApp development. To highlight the concept of DAppChains, Loom Network recently released DelegateCall, a social question-and-answer site for developers that runs entirely on the blockchain. There’s a kind of organic freedom there that’s almost poetic.” Applications become like living, breathing entities. “Changes to the code are voted on by community members, so once a developer releases an application to the world, it takes on a life of its own and he no longer has total control over it. “I foresee a future where the Internet is built up of large-scale decentralized applications that are community-owned, forkable, transparent, and immune to censorship or control from a single party,” Duffy said. Developers can use Loom Network’s software development kit (SDK) to quickly build their own blockchain-based DApps without having to understand the underlying blockchain infrastructure. Since the rules on a DAppChain can be customized based on an individual DApp’s needs, Loom Network makes it possible to run big apps on the blockchain without worrying about scalability, decentralization, or censorship from a third party. With Loom Network, you could run a million CryptoKitties simultaneously without having to worry about network congestion or interrupting other important transactions, the company said. Loom Network provides DApps with much greater scalability by running each DApp on its own blockchain - called a DAppChain - which runs in parallel to an Ethereum smart contract. “Ethereum took it a step further by allowing developers to upload indelible pieces of code into the Blockchain, called ‘smart contracts.’ Loom Network is the next logical step in this evolution - it allows developers to run these unstoppable applications on a massive scale.” “With Bitcoin came the world’s first blockchain, a decentralized ledger of financial transactions that cannot be counterfeited, forged, or modified,” said James Duffy, cofounder of Loom Network, in a statement. It is the purest form of digital democracy for the future of the internet, the company said. In fact, the community at large will always have the final say with any decentralized apps (DApps) that run on the blockchain. When blockchain is used in this manner on Loom Network, users will own a copy of their data and servers cannot be shut down arbitrarily without community approval. The company said it has raised $25 million in funding. ![]() It says it enables large-scale games and social apps to be built on top of the blockchain.
